Coast Guard C144 Crew Reunites with Rescued Edmond Couple in Guthrie
Our Apex GOK location got a special visit from the U.S. Coast Guard C144 crew, who made headlines in July for their heroic efforts in rescuing an Edmond couple. Kim and Nathan Maker had drifted away from their group while scuba diving, a situation that could have turned tragic if not for the quick action of the Coast Guard. The C144 crew, responsible for spotting and assisting in the couple's rescue, made the trip to Guthrie to reunite with the couple. The emotional reunion took place over lunch at the Guthrie American Legion. The gathering was not only a celebration of the couple's safe return but also a testament to the bravery and dedication of the Coast Guard crew!
Apex Employee Spotlight Steele Mason Line Service Technician
Steele Mason joined the APEX GOK team in January 2024, making his debut in the aviation industry. With a background in aviation studies from Spartan College of Aeronautics & Technology and a Commercial Pilot Certificate under his belt, Steele brought with him a solid foundation in aviation. His journey at APEX is just beginning, but his enthusiasm for the field is already shining through.
Though this is Steele’s first job in aviation, he has quickly adapted to his role as a Line Service Technician. His educational background plays a key role in his success, giving him a deeper understanding of the aircraft he services. Steele’s passion for aviation is evident in his interactions with pilots, as he enjoys discussing their jobs, aircraft, and the many destinations they’ve visited.
“Steele has caught on quickly to the role of Line Service Technician. His prior education in aviation has played a big part. As a manager, it’s always fun to hire Line Techs with a passion for aviation, and Steele has that in spades. He is great at chopping it up with the pilots about their job, their aircraft, or the places they’ve been. This is his first job in aviation, and I’m excited to see where his career takes him,” says Justin Skaggs Apex GOK General Manager.
When Steele isn’t immersed in the world of aviation, he enjoys the great outdoors. His hobbies include hunting, fishing, and cheering on his favorite team, the OSU Cowboys. GO POKES!
Steele’s dedication and enthusiasm make him a valuable member of the APEX team, and we’re excited to watch his journey unfold. Keep an eye on Steele as he continues to grow and excel in the aviation industry!
